Designing Custom Soccer Jerseys: Sublimation vs. Screen Printing

June 7, 2026 Industry Insights

When a soccer club or academy needs new uniforms, the age-old debate arises: should we use dye-sublimation or traditional screen printing? For modern athletic wear, the answer is almost always sublimation.

The Problem with Screen Printing

Screen printing applies thick layers of plastisol ink on top of the fabric. While great for heavy cotton t-shirts, it adds weight, reduces breathability, and eventually cracks and peels after repeated washes.

The Power of Sublimation

Sublimation uses heat to convert solid dye particles into a gas, which then bonds permanently with the polyester fibers of the jersey. This means the design is literally part of the fabric. It will never crack, peel, or fade, and it adds zero weight to the garment.

For ultra-vibrant, lightweight, and durable custom soccer jerseys, Bays Sports offers industry-leading sublimation technology.
